Introduction
Amara has worked at her city's public library for six years. She takes pride in the digital repository she helped build, hundreds of resources, all freely available to the teachers, students, and community members who depend on her library. But lately, things have been unravelling. A biology teacher emailed last week, frustrated that a textbook she recommended had a broken link. A student came in asking for resources in Swahili and found nothing. A colleague pointed out that half the metadata fields were empty, making the repository nearly unsearchable.
Amara knows the collection is growing, but she is starting to wonder whether growth without structure is doing more harm than good. She wants to fix it but is not sure where to start. If any of this feels familiar, this module is for you.
This module will equip you with the practical skills to curate and manage quality, inclusive OER collections in alignment with the UNESCO OER Recommendation. By the end, you will be able to implement best practices to build and sustain your library's OER collections.
What you'll learn in Module 3
- Explain your role in curating and managing quality OER collections in library contexts
- Develop and apply criteria and processes for OER quality assurance
- Identify and navigate major African OA and OER repositories and understand how to select, implement, and manage OER collections
- Apply metadata standards and data curation practices to improve OER discoverability and accessibility in library catalogues
