      Librarians can advise academic staff how to release their research data as ‘Open Data’.

    • Instructions

      1. A new academic asks for advice on publishing their data openly. Their research project is funded by your national government. They ask what is the process in order to achieve this? What are the reasons why data should be closed or restricted?
      2. Respond to them via email and include the following points:
        1. Explain what open data is
        2. What is your institution's policy regarding publishing their data openly
        3. What is the process they should follow (if there is no policy at your institution, then follow best practice)?
        4. Recommend what type of licence they should use and what disclaimer to use
        5. Caution them against when data should be closed or restricted
        6. Refer them to a national (if not national, then international) open data repository as an example of where they can publish their data and emphasise the format the data should be in
      3. Be ready to show case your email in the next online Zoom meeting
      4. Copy the content of the e-mail into a MS Word document. Upload the file  using the workshop tool below. Peruse the marking rubric before you submit your assignment.
      5. Note this is another peer-to-peer marking assignment. You need to submit one document and mark 3.
